Setting nozzles for success
February 2, 2024
Whether you’re using a single or two-nozzle set up, nozzle placement is key to consistent and accurate product placement.
One-nozzle set up
- Target a six- to eight-inch band, just behind where potatoes land.
- Make sure the band is hitting the bottom of the furrow.
- Attaching the nozzle on an adjustable mount allows for easy optimization of spray band location and width.
- Key watch outs:
- Avoid mounting nozzles on moving parts.
- Do not allow fertilizer path to interfere with chemical application.
- Avoid putting the nozzle too far back on the planter and having it point backwards.
Two-nozzle set up
With two properly positioned nozzles, you can get complete coverage of the entire area that encompasses the growing roots, stems, stolons and daughter tubers. This ultimately helps provide superior protection.
- The first nozzle should be placed at the front of the tower to apply before the seed piece is dropped.
- The second nozzle should be placed in a down and reverse position to spray the soil that has been returned to the furrow.
